Yesterday failed 2004 Democrat Party Presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry announced on the Senate Floor that he won’t campaign for the White House in 2008. Did anyone take note? No. This is the conclusion for a figure that failed and is now permanently relegated as the junior Senator from Massachusetts, as whiskey and women have not taken enough of a toll on senior Senator Ted Kennedy.
John Kerry like so many elected officials has never worked a hard day in his life. Oh some could argue the same for current President Bush. However in Bush’s case he won twice, the second time around was achieved while confronting a brutal media machine that referred to the President as ‘Dubya’ and a dumb hick. The American Left and the Democrat Party, one in the same, threw everything out including the kitchen sink and good taste to portray the President as a moron and at the end of the day Kerry and the ambulance chaser; former North Carolina Senator and Democrat Vice- Presidential nominee John Edwards; failed at toppling the redneck.
John Kerry has been unceremoniously thrown under the bus by his own party. The Democrats aren’t going to endorse him and anyone who reads even the briefest of political coverage knows this to be true. However this treatment is quite fitting as this political obituary will stroll down memory lane and show how Kerry is well adept at giving his opponents and those who disagree with him this very same treatment.
John Kerry was born in Aurora, CO but before his first birthday his family had relocated back to their native Massachusetts. His father Richard Kerry served a stint in US Army Air Corps and later was a lawyer for Bureau of the United Nations, under the State Department. Hard work and tough times were not in the cards for the young Kerry because his mother Rosemary Forbes Kerry came from an international blue blood lineage. Distant relatives included John Murray Forbes who made fortunes in backing railroad expansion during 19th Century America. His son William took a gamble and invested in Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone company in the late 1800s. The original seed money for these ventures came from previous family activities stemming from the Old China Trade Company, which derived a portion of their profits from the opium trade. In fact BC Forbes, the founder of Forbes Magazine, comes from the same family stock. John Kerry’s middle name is Forbes, during his failed 2004 Presidential campaign Kerry would make use of the initial as suddenly he became John F. Kerry or JFK. Another noteworthy relative is Kerry’s first cousin and close friend Brice Lalond, an environmentalist and left wing Green Party member campaigning in France’s current presidential election.
The wealth accumulated through a century would facilitate the purchases of several estates. These estates included Less Essart located in Saint Briac, France where Kerry spent his childhood summers. Other land estates include the private Naushon Island, which is located between Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod. These assets are tied in a series of trusts. Kerry is a beneficiary of these trusts.
Besides summering in France and on Cape Cod, Kerry’s education included private schools in New England and Europe. A wealthy aunt and heir to the Forbes fortune would pay the tuition bill. This aunt’s act of kindness would begin a trend of Kerry living off the wealth of women as we will see.
Similar to the Bush family, the Forbes-Kerry clan made ample donations and endowments to Yalel University, which is where Kerry would graduate from in 1966. During college Kerry spent a great deal of time playing sports and took flying lessons. Following graduation Kerry was denied a deferment to study in Paris and was drafted by the US Naval Reserve to go to Vietnam. After Officer School Kerry was assigned swift boat captain duties and following several fire exchanges between December 1968 and February 1969, would receive valor medals. These included a Purple Heart and Silver Star. With medals in hand, an accolade that was not relevant to him until he used them for mileage during his failed 2004 campaign to unseat President Bush, Kerry returned back to the United States.
Back in the US, Kerry joined the Vietnam Veterans Against The War in 1970 and proceeded to throw his brethren under the bus. This demoralizing of American troops would also be a Kerry theme. In April 1971 he testified before Congress during the Fulbright Hearings, which was part of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Dressed in green fatigues Kerry quoted from a prepared speech, stating that ‘soldiers were dying for nothing’, that the military had ‘created a monster’, and that he had witnessed soldiers ‘raping, cutting off the ears and heads’ off of Vietnamese citizens. It should be noted that Kerry claimed to have witnessed such atrocities and was never a part of them. This didn’t matter because Kerry, distinguished and decorated, had now given legitimacy to the extreme anti-war movement members. These were the ones that would spit on returning GIs and refer to them as baby killers. He then went about hobnobbing with popular iconic anti-war figures Jane Fonda and John Lennon. It should be noted that the claims made by Kerry and those claimed by popular contemporary reporting were never validated.
By now John Kerry had married Julia Stimson Thorne, she too was from well to do stock as her father was a US diplomat to Italy and operated the Rome Daily Herald. The couple would divorce in 1988. Kerry attempted a Congressional run in 1972 but failed. This didn’t faze the blue blood future statesman as he entered Boston College Law School. In 1976 he passed the Massachusetts bar exam and went to work in the District Attorney’s office for Middlesex County. A few years later Kerry would entertain the idea of being an entrepreneur. Unlike his falling back on military medals during his failed 2004 Presidential campaign this was episode he would like others to forget.
After dinner one night, Kerry and a friend had a hankering for cookies. The duo perused through Boston’s historical Faneuil Hall but found no shops that sold cookies. According to Kerry a dream was born. Kerry and his friend formed Kilvert & Forbes Ltd and established a cookie shop in the Hall. Kerry would later cite this venture, which Kerry sold his share in 1988, as being capable and experienced enough to serve on the Senate’s Small Business Committee.
This story of success conflicts with the recollection of David Liederman of Manhattan. According to Liederman, who was the owner of Dave’s Cookies, he received a call in 1979 or 80 from Kerry inquiring about franchise rights. Kerry made an appointment with Liederman and went through floor plans and layouts. Kerry was given the package and Liederman did not hear back from him. Then six months later a regular Liederman patron remarked that he was impressed with the Faneuil Hall store, which was identical to Dave’s Cookies layout. The only problem was there was not a store owned by Liedman located in Boston. According to Liedernman, when confronted, Kerry suggested that he buy him out and that political office was his true calling, not small business ownership.
In 1982 Kerry campaigned and received the nomination as Lieutenant Governor for Massachusetts, serving under then Governor Michael Dukakis, who later led a failed Presidential bid against George Bush in 1988. In 1984 Massachusetts Democrat Senator Paul Tsongas announced he would not seek reelection due to health reasons and Kerry jumped in campaigning for his seat. Despite not initially endorsed by his party he won in 1985.
Kerry quickly engaged the Iran-Contra affair and produced his own investigation entitled The Kerry Committee Report, which is considered by some as the precursor to the Iran Contra Hearings. Despite a lengthy investigation the Iran-Contra debacle produced little in the way of results or prosecutions.
In 1995 John Kerry married Theresa Heinz, widow of Pennsylvania Republican Senator John Heinz III and heir to the Heinz food corporation. John Heinz was killed in a helicopter accident in 1991. Kerry had hit a billion dollar jackpot when he said I do as Heinz’s widow had inherited a significant portion of the company’s stock. These extra greenbacks would ensure plenty in the way of campaign funding and facilitate the comfortable lifestyle Kerry had grown accustomed to throughout his life. Due to his marriage Kerry would now be the richest serving Senator.
In 1996 Kerry faced a tough reelection campaign against the incumbent and popular Massachusetts governor Republican William Weld. The two politicos agreed to a $6.9 million cap on campaign spending. The agreement was ironed out at Kerry’s Beacon Hill mansion. Kerry would eventually break the agreement and narrowly won reelection. Your author imagines the Heinz ketchup coffers were just too sweet to pass up.
While a Senator, Kerry co-sponsored dozens of bills, never actually attaching his name up front with only 11 of them becoming law. This is probably a positive aspect given his inability, just on his posh lifestyle, to relate to the average American.
Kerry, a left leaning Democrat, voted for the invasion of Iraq then flipped-flopped his position during his failed 2004 Presidential bid as it related to additional funding for troops. He would say the following, “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." Once again throwing troops under the bus and attempting to resonate with the far left Democrat Party base.
Kerry would concede the 2004 election to President Bush, a different path taken when a Democrat loses. Other members of his party usually spat out allegations of voter fraud and lawsuits to be filed against election machine producer Diebold, Inc. Not this time, the American Left had to admit that even this blue blood that was supposedly more in tuned with common Americans could not defeat the hillbilly from the Midland, Texas.
With a loss in hand, Kerry returned back to the Senate and proceeded to criticize the Bush Administration at every corner. He is on the record being against troop level increases, which is clearly needed to conclude the Iraq War and has all but suggested a cut and run policy. This mentality will only paint American servicemen and servicewomen as incapable. Kerry further demeaned and drove the bus over the troops when he was campaigning at the Pasadenalace City College for California Democrat gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides and said the following, “You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq”. Kerry would later attempt to explain it as a ‘botched joke’ but few believed his explanation. Many political insiders credit this comment as ending any ideas of a Kerry 2008 Presidential campaign, Angelides’ campaign failed and your author suspects Kerry isn’t receiving phone calls for endorsements.
And now he seeks a Senate reelection in the only state that would reelect him-Massachusetts, a state filled with blue bloods and those who have not worked a day in their life except for cleaning out their sailboats on Cape Cod. He is content in safely criticizing Bush, the Iraq War and playing second fiddle to Ted Kennedy. He revels in riches and lounges comfortably in the bubble of many estates, having fooled no one of his true colors. So long Senator Kerry
